January 12, 2019

SCWA logoThe 19 January Southern California Writers Association meeting features crime-thriller author David Putnam speaking about writing basics: the 4 C’s, the five things a scene needs to work, MAR (Motivation, Action Reaction), and the three parts of voice.

Dave is a career law enforcement officer. He has worked in narcotics enforcement, served on FBI-sponsored violent crimes teams, and was cross-sworn as a US Marshal, pursuing murder suspects and bank robbers in Arizona, Nevada, and California. Putnam did three tours on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s SWAT team and also worked for the real Hawaii 5-0. His new novel, The Reckless, is the sixth installment in his Bruno Johnson crime series.

The meeting takes place at the Claim Jumper restaurant on 18050 Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley. Doors open at 8:30 and the program begins at 9:00. Tickets are $25 for members, $35 for non-members ($30 with a reservation), and include a buffet breakfast. Check the SCWA website for more information.
