30 OCTOBER MEETING NOTES
Ten people attended: Burt, Casey, Glenda (read the third and last part of her short story “On the Waye”), Jo (read a chapter from Moonspell), Kari, Lance (read two chapters from the Fake reboot), Maddie, Marianna, Shari and Steve J.
News & Notes
A 15-member book club in Van Nuys read Burt’s Jericho’s Walls, and Burt was the guest of honor during their discussion last week.
Glenda and Steve J. attended the La Jolla Writer’s Conference last weekend (24-26 October). They discussed the highlights with the group.
Bouchercon — one of the major mystery-related writers’ conferences in the U.S. — will take place in Long Beach on 13-16 November. Look for the following event post.
A special Author Showcase edition of LIT UP! will happen on 11 November at Kean Coffee in Tustin. It will feature John Vorhaus, a long-time TV comedy writer (Married…With Children, Head of the Class), author, teacher, poker expert and consultant to TV producers worldwide. He’ll read from Texas Twist, the latest installment of his Radar Hoverlander con-man series, talk about his experiences in the comedy business, and discuss some of the key points of The Comic Toolbox, his how-to book for writing good comedy even if you’re not naturally funny. The Facebook event page is up, and flyers are available here (1-up and 2-up). If you have a way to get the flyers into any college English or literature departments, please do; Vorhaus should appeal to a university audience as well as our LIT UP! regulars.
