Indie Book Reviewer Yellow Pages
From Victory Crayne via Glenda:
Christine Pinheiro-Silva has come out with the second edition of her very helpful listing of sites ( The Indie Book Reviewer Yellow Pages ) that review self-published books. She lists 97 book reviewers in this edition. All will review books for free.
Richard Sanders wrote this in his review of her book:
“If Christy had done nothing but compile a list of willing critics (a task in itself), that would’ve been virtue enough. But the Yellow Pages is much more than that. The entries for each of the reviewers includes a rating, a history of their sites or blogs, their audience size, a complete list of what genres and publishing formats they accept/don’t accept, submission guidelines, approximate turn-around times plus a Q&A giving you a feel for their personalities and tastes.”
Some of the reviewers listed require ebooks and some physical books, and many accept either.
This very helpful listing can be purchased for the paltry sum of 99 cents on Amazon Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XTWYGC/
and for $1.99 Barnes and Noble Nook ereader at http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Indie-Book-Reviewer-Yellow-Pages/Christine-Pinheiro/e/2940012683175/
Paperback versions are priced at $9.99.

24 FEBRUARY MEETING NOTES
Thirteen people attended: Burt, Casey, Glenda (read her autobiographical sketch “A Proper Fist”), JoAnne, Jonathan, Julia, Lance, Maddie, Marianna, Melodye, Rosie, Shari and Stace. This meeting was also a tryout for Paradise Perks in Irvine and became a trial in more ways than one; we discovered Thursdays are not viable at this café.
News & Notes
The Borders at Tustin Legacy is no longer available. We’ll meet at Panera Bread (2467 Park Ave, Tustin, also at The District) for our 3 Mar meetings. (Props to Maddie for arranging this.) We’ll see if this works as an interim home until May. While you’re not required to eat there, it would be politic to buy some coffee or dessert.

Article about blogging
Since many of us have blogs or are thinking about blogs as keystones for “author platforms”, I thought I’d pass on this post, which delves into the issue from a wider perspective than most I’ve seen on the topic. An excerpt:
“Tweets share; blogs provide meaning and substance; facebook fan pages offer social interaction and feedback; videos and podcasts offer new ways of connecting with readers and new dimensions to their experience of you.
“But here’s the thing.
“There has to be a point.
“There has to be a larger meaning that people can buy into, and engage with, and return to. That improves their lives in some way. Makes the world a better place.
“This is the great, amazing thing about a blog, an author platform: it’s the chance to go beyond yourself, to express your values and idealism and Do Something Truly Cool.”

17 FEBRUARY MEETING NOTES
Eleven people attended: Burt (read three chapters from Madness of March), Casey, Glenda, JoAnne, John D. (read the opening chapter of The Age of Arthur), Jonathan, Kermit, Lance, Maddie, Shari and Stace.
News & Notes
We’ll gather at Irvine’s Paradise Perks (15475 Jeffrey Road, at Irvine Center Drive) for our 24 Feb and 3 Mar meetings. We’ll try the place for two weeks, then decide whether we want to stay. Our Borders in Tustin is slated to shut down. The café breathed its last on 17 Feb; the clearance sale starts on the 19th.
The new group website at purefictionleague.org is now active. Stace has worked hard to bring up the site, and it’s already far better than what we had with Multiply. Stace and Lance are administrators; John D. volunteered to be one of the two editors. You can subscribe to the blog either by entering your email address or by following the RSS feed. Borders declares bankruptcy
Borders Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this morning. As part of its reorganization plan, Borders plans to close 193 stores across the U.S.
Store #450, 2493 Park Avenue in Tustin, is on the list.
The company has not yet released the schedule for these closings, but it will have to move quickly in order to emerge from Chapter 11 by the end of the year.
The complete list is available at Scribd.
